C1770-80 American assembled musket using 1st Model Brown Bess parts. Most significant is the "NEW JERSEY" marked buttplate. Recovered guns from Lake George were found with this marking, after British units were ambushed by the French at Sabbatth Day Point. Wilson proofed barrel with London marking. 45-1/2" barrel, original Brown Bess furniture except one ramrod pipe. Triggerguard was missing the rear section before it was assembled, and was put together with a period rosehead nail. Lock is American and plainly made. Stock appears to be maple and has a light older refinish. Stock is fine overall with scattered minor marks, and forearm edge cracks, the one on the left being rather long, extending to between the middle and upper ramrod pipes and a small crack in front of the lock. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
