Native American used P1853 British Enfield musket. Barrel shortened to 32", stock shortened to below the placement of the original lower barrel band, and capped with a large pewter forearm cap. Lock dated 1862 Tower. Stock has a lovely patina and even use to it with repeating stamped patterns in the butt, and three large stamped designs on the right side. Has a large missing sliver from the right edge of the forearm and was cracked in front of the triggerguard, being repaired with a wrapping of rawhide and tacks. The rawhide is thin from age and curled up at the edges, showing years of wear and use. The tacks are well worn and there are also several hand forged nails. Metal parts have deep untouched patina, with the brass being an almost even black color, and just a little pitting in the breech area. The hammer spur was broken off and knurled on top ages ago. Ramrod, ramrod pipe and bead front sight are missing. Gun was purchased out of a house in Saratoga County, NY where it had been for generations. No history of what region or nation it may have been used in originally. Nipple is mostly chipped off and worn away. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
