C1830 New England flintlock halfstock rifle by Henry Pratt (1790-1880) of Roxbury and Boston Mass. Engraved "H Pratt" on top of barrel in an early style. 36" octagon barrel of about .56 caliber. Has interesting engraving on patchbox cover "NRR" and "No. 8", possibly initials and a gun number in militia use. Very plain construction overall as would be expected in a gun for military use. Metal parts have medium to dark patina overall with brass parts having been partially cleaned, and some minor scattered pitting on iron parts. Stock is very good, has a couple minor chips, and a more noticeable chip in the toe of the butt. Missing lower ramrod ferule and possibly a ramrod rib below the barrel. Has spring tension to hammer, but does not cock. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
