early Hopkins & Allen "Forehand" hammerless shotgun

"Forehand" hammerless single barrel shotgun by Hopkins & Allen Arms. Serial number 7731. Barrel is 30" long, possibly 16 gauge, as a 12ga snap cap will not chamber, muzzle diameter is approx .68". Metal parts show attractive medium brown patina overall. Takedown device has been struck on the left side several times with a punch, possibly to force the knurled projection into position and retain it. Stock very good, shows average use with light scattered marks, has a couple light cracks in the butt by the upper and lower frame tangs, butt is free of play. Hard rubber buttplate fine, has a small chip at the toe which is well worn. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
