Remington "Split Breech" first type small frame cavalry carbine. Contract of 5,000 made for the US government during the Civil War according to Flayderman 5E-078. 20" barrel, .46 rimfire caliber. Interesting forerunner to the famed rolling block action that would be used the world over for the next 40+ years. Metal parts have a salt-and-pepper gray coloration overall with good marking on the frame tang. Stocks have been lightly sanded, virtually free of handling marks, has a crack on the underside of the forearm and a faint inspector cartouche outline on the left side of the wrist. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
