C1800 Woodland American Indian style trade gun - $750.00

Interesting C1800 Woodland American Indian style trade gun. Built using an early London proofed and maker initialed barrel and an American curly maple stock. Simple construction and shorter barrel length preferred by Indians in contrast to the longer barreled guns used by white settlers. Shows the extensive use and repurposing over time as often seen on Indian used guns. 31-11/16" part octagon, part round barrel was probably shortened based on proportions. Metal parts have an untouched patina overall with some uncleaned rust and some expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Converted to percussion utilizing a smaller trade lock marked "WARREN/ALBANY". Several screws replaced. Small silver escutcheon in wrist. Well-selected curly maple stock with tight striping. Wood is checkered in the wrist and well-worn overall with chipping to the forearm edge, especially on the right side, crack glued near tip on left side of forearm, crack by lock screw, and old worn chip at front of lock mortise. Antique ramrod is broken off at about 26" long. This gun just came out of western New York in the area that could have been the frontier that whites were rapidly moving into following the Revolutionary War. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
