Austrian M1854 Lorenz percussion musket. 58 caliber as altered for Federal service. Dated 1860 (860) on lock. Original length barrel, stock shortened to position of middle barrel band. Metal parts have a mottled patina with some pitting in the barrel breech area, and the hammer may have been repaired. Long range rear sight is present. Buttplate has a small drilled hole from where a cord was installed to make the gun into a lamp. Rear of breech plug is also drilled. Stock shows an old varnished finish, some minor chipping and checking around the buttplate, some chipping at front of lock mortise, and a small crack forward of the front lock bolt. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
