American restock of a British Brown Bess musket. GR and TOWER marked lock. 37-1/2" barrel. Early British proofed barrel with flared tang and maker mark on left side of barrel that looks like "IB". Barrel needs the flash hole done as it is currently a threaded hole for a bolster. Lock looks to be done using antique parts, with a later style hammer. Metal parts have a light patina overall with some pitting in the barrel breech and lock area. Stock is good, showing evidence of having been lightly cleaned, lock mortise has a couple chips and screw added at rear, small chip at rear of barrel tang from recoil, and expected handling marks overall. Forearm is restored from the ramrod ferule forward. Ramrod is too short for the channel. Frizzen spring is weak and does not have mainspring tension. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
