British P1777 Short Land pattern flintlock musket. Standard configuration with 42" round barrel. Has British proofs on barrel breech and storekeeper marks in butt, behind triggerguard, and behind sideplate. Lock markings are worn or deliberately lightened, which American Patriots were known to do to the king's marks. Sideplate and upper ramrod pipe are restorations. Metal parts are worn with a dark patina overall and some expected pitting in the flash hole area. Stock shows moderate wear and use overall with smooth wear to scattered handling marks, worn recoil chips rear of barrel tang, some minor worn chipping and a small crack in the lock mortise, a couple worn slivers in the right side of the forearm and a longer sliver in left side of forearm toward muzzle, and some wear around the stock pins. Frizzen was refaced during the period of use and has lost part of the refacing. This musket obviously saw many years of use. Lock functions mechanically but feels worn. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
