rare Henry Deringer M1816 style percussion rifled musket. Looks much like a M1816 musket, but was made up by Henry Deringer using newly made and leftover parts in the run-up to the Civil War. Marked on lock "US/DERINGER/PHILADELA". Distinctive long bolster and rear sight. 42" round barrel of .69 caliber rifled bore. 41" long tulip head ramrod. Metal parts have an untouched almost black patina with scattered light pitting. Sling swivels are stuck in place and the upper swivel is detached on one side. Nipple is broken off. Stock shows average wear and use overall with small crack in left side of forearm and by each lock screw, worn piece of wood missing from lower lock mortise, and some minor nicking to the ramrod channel. There is a large checked knot in the right side of the wrist, attesting to the less than prime quality materials that were being used on these guns going to the states. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
