Very fancy early Massachusetts flintlock militia musket, proofed and dated on barrel 1813. 43" barrel. In our opinion, this is a quality reconversion to flintlock that presents proudly in the hand. Nicely engraved brass furniture, wrist has a nice domed silver engraved escutcheon and accompanying silver wire inlay. Metal parts have an untouched patina overall with some of the brass parts lighter than others from handling. Stock is very good, possibly of cherry, showing light wear and use, has a couple well-worn slivers from the lock mortise, small crack by forward lock bolt, a few diagonal grain cracks to the forearm edges, a small sliver missing, and a long sliver nicely replaced in the forearm edge on the right side near the muzzle. This gun just has so many little pleasant touches, like the the small "tail" carved at rear of lock, and the border decoration on the sideplate. The gun really presents as a lovingly made piece of Federal period armament. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
