Wonderful "attic mint" M1763/66 French Charleville percussion conversion musket. Lock well marked "Charleville" and "D" proofed. Barrel and left side of butt also "D" marked, and has period initials "SIS" in right side of butt. 44-1/2" barrel. Nice complete, untouched gun, including the sling swivels and a handmade ramrod that has a little twist on the end to act as a cleaning worm or bullet extractor. Interesting blacksmith conversion to percussion with nicely faceted hammer. Metal parts have an untouched patina with some expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock has a rich patina and smoothly worn surfaces with numerous minor handling marks, but free of cracks, showing some minor chipping to the ramrod channel, lock mortise, and around barrel tang. Lock clicks but will not quite hold at full cock; we have not made any attempt to adjust it, but may be a simple adjustment to the sear or tumbler. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
