M1842 Harpers Ferry percussion musket. Dated 1844 on lock (first year), and 1851 on barrel. Nicely proofed barrel, has faint stock cartouches opposite lock, and a "Q" in front of the triggerguard, associated with Confederate "captured and collected" arms, where the repair process could explain the difference in dates. Metal parts have an attractive light gray patina and virtually free of pitting. Stock is smooth from average wear and use, shows scattered worn handling marks overall with a hairline crack in the wrist from rear of lock around to sideplate that is hard to discern. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
