Springfield M1816 Type III percussion conversion musket. Dated 1834 on lock, 1838 on barrel tang, proofed at barrel breech, and nicely cartouched in the stock opposite the lock and behind the triggerguard. Original length 42" barrel. Metal parts have an untouched brown patina overall with some minimal granularness in the barrel breech area. Nice honestly used gun with both sling swivels present and the original ramrod 40-3/16" long, having lost a small amount of its length due to a forging flaw near the threads. Stock also has an attractive patina, showing light to moderate wear and use with scattered light to moderate handling marks and some tiny grain checks in the lock mortise. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
