Springfield M1842 musket, dated 1846 on lock. Visible barrel proofs with date of 1852 on tang. Original length barrel and 41-1/2" original rod with threads removed. Metal parts are untouched overall with some expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock shows average wear and use overall with good patina, has scattered overall marks and scratches from handling, some of which are moderate. There is a small crack by the rear lock screw and a small crack to left of barrel tang This is a nice honest gun with intact sling swivels. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
