Springfield M1842 rifled musket, dated 1853 on lock and barrel. Faint cartouche in stock opposite lock. 42" barrel. Metal parts have a slightly granular appearance with salt-and-pepper coloration overall. Stock is very good, may have been lightly cleaned, but retains definition to the edges, has a few scattered moderate handling marks and some minor chips to the ramrod channel. Has original cupped-tip ramrod and both sling swivels, but long range rear sight is absent from barrel. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
