Springfield M1863 Type I percussion musket, dated 1863 on lock. Nicely marked lock, barrel proofs are visible, faint cartouche visible opposite lock. Has original rear sight, which is missing the 500 yard leaf. Middle barrel band and ramrod are also absent. Has initial "M" applied to barrel breech. Metal parts have a brown patina with scattered light to moderate pitting pitting, which is heavier on the buttplate. Stock is lightly cleaned, showing scattered moderate handling marks, a long wrist crack around the barrel tang and in front of lock, ramrod channel showing chipping from use, and a flake of wood missing behind middle band on right. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
