Unique handmade model or prototype break open single shot rifle. 30" octagon barrel of about .40 caliber bore, about 13/16" width, chamber about 0.45", exact chambering unknown. Signed on left side of frame in script "S Herman" and "S S" with stamping "1856" and "WM". Well made and quite heavy with an abundance of solid steel and brass. Metal parts have a medium patina overall. Spurless hammer visible when viewed from above is cocked by pushing the barrel release past the point where it releases the barrel. Wood buttstock is made with a pistol grip, shows scattered marks from handling over the years. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
