Germanic percussion schützen rifle, needing wood repair. 31" octagon barrel of 0.85" diameter with .33 caliber bore. Adjustable rear sight with provision for tang sight. Barrel has fine original blue mixing with light uncleaned rust. Other parts have a medium patina overall. Fancy shaped percussion hammer, hammer rest is absent, and a unique oak twig sideplate with acorn. Stock is beautifully made with nicely shaped, nail-decorated wrist checkering, crossed oak leaves in forearm, and an acorn-shaped ramrod finial. Ramrod is absent. Stock is nicely grained with some expected age checking, it was built with a delicate sweeping pistol-type wrist that failed to be strong enough to support the gun's weight, and consequently broke. It is in need of a stable repair and some chip repair. This is a beautiful example of the gunmaker's art that deserves a proper restoration and a place of honor on the wall. Hammer cocks and set triggers function, but the hair trigger doesn't release the hammer, only a full trigger pull will. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
