C1860-70 Pennsylvania swiveling breech double barrel rifle marked on barrels "J.HARDER/LOCK HAVEN PA". Jacob Harder is listed in Frank Sellers' "American Gunsmiths" as having lived from 1820-1898, operating from 1838-1860 in Athens, PA and from 1860-1888 in Lock Haven, PA, even patenting and producing breech loading rifle late in his career. Barrels feature a 0.40" rifled bore and a 0.43" smooth bore. Has two ramrods, one with brass tips and screw-on worm, the other plain, both have shadows from having been with the rifle for a long time. Symmetrical inlaid patchbox contains some old patches, deer inlay in cheekpiece, with star in left side of wrist and fish in right side behind lock. Metal parts have a medium to dark patina overall with some evidence of cleaning to the barrels and old rust in the barrel breeches. Stock has patina surfaces and appears free of cracks and chips. Trigger must be set to cock hammer, hammer will release from half cock position if front trigger is touched. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
