C1860 percussion halfstock "perch belly" rifle marked on barrel "L.B.WHITE" and on engraved trade lock "Ashmore". L.B.White is listed in Sellers' "American Gunsmiths" as being in an 1860 directory in Plymouth, Indiana as making percussion halfstock and underhammer firearms. 34-3/16" octagon barrel of 1" width and 0.37" bore. Furnishings have a light patina, barrel has a medium to dark patina, and lock has been cleaned. There is some pitting present in the barrel breech area with some erosion to the wood adjacent to the bolster. Walnut halfstock has a light coloration, has been lightly refinished, some little slivers by the barrel tang, has a diagonal crack on either side of the forearm where the securing key goes through, and a small grain crack by the lock screw. Ramrod is almost long enough for the barrel but is perhaps an inch or two short. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
