C1820-40 New England style halfstock percussion conversion rifle. 40" octagon barrel of about 0.56" smoothbore, barrel is slightly swamped (flared muzzle) of 0.89" width and 0.85" several inches back. "W.KETLAND & Co" marked trade lock. New England style engraved patchbox, silver wrist escutcheon, and silver wire inlay behind barrel. Metal parts have a medium patina on brass furnishings and brown on lock and barrel, with some expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Walnut halfstock is fair, having been lightly sanded, has a crack in the underside of the forearm, and a couple either light cracks opposite the lock and in front of the lock, and some small chips in the lock mortise and around the barrel key. Nice period, possibly original wooden ramrod. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
