C1840-60 percussion curly maple fullstock longrifle. 37" octagon barrel of 1-1/16" width and 0.53" bore. Unsigned, has engraved trade lock and novel patchbox release hidden in the toe plate. Nice original open sights. Brass parts have a light yellow coloration, lock and barrel have a medium mottled patina with some expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Curly maple fullstock has an attractive bold, wide stripe to the grain, may have been lightly cleaned with light added finish. Has small chip to wood in left forearm edge, around barrel keys and lower lock mortise. Has small crack opposite lock by screw and a small grain crack by the buttplate. Nice period woodburn decorated ramrod missing a metal tip. Trigger releases hammer at half cock and will not hold at full cock. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
