C1840-60 curly maple fullstock percussion rifle. 33" octagon barrel of 15/16" width and 0.45" bore. Marked on lock "A.W.SPIES/WARRANTED". Spies was a New York dealer whose business continued after his death until 1877. Nice cutout and floral engraved patchbox with integrated eagle and dog heads. Interesting repairs to wrist shows iron plates inlet into each side and then a sheet of brass nailed on top. Silver barrel key escutcheons, one of six is absent. Silver crescent moon inlay in cheek piece. Stock is well worn, having a crack by the lock screw, piece of wood missing above lock and at toe of butt. The wrist break is still loose in spite of the repairs. Patchbox contains some patches and three lead round balls. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
