Remington No. 1 "Short Range" rolling block sporting rifle. Type described in Flayderman 5E-092 with folding adjustable peep rear sight and Beach combination front sight that is absent its folding globe. Two-line Remington marking on frame tang. 26" octagon barrel marked "40 CTGE" on bottom, possibly .40-50 chambering, as it is the one described in the Flayderman entry, but we have not confirmed the chambering. Metal parts have an attractive uncleaned medium to dark smooth brown patina. Nicely grained stocks with well-executed checkering and iron schnabel forearm tip. Wood has nice original surfaces that show expected handling marks from use, free of chips, with one small hairline crack at rear of underside of forearm. Shotgun-style butt with fancy checkered horn buttplate. Equipped with single set trigger. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
