M1878 Sharps-Borchardt two-band military rifle. Serial number 9815. 32" round barrel, .45-70 caliber. Metal parts have a mottled brown patina with a little scattered pitting. Standard markings on barrel and frame. Front sight is a period replacement made from a Liberty Head "V" nickel minted from 1883 to 1912. Stock is fair, shows average wear and use overall with scattered handling marks, a crack on either side of the top of the wrist near the frame, and a crack at the rear of the underside of the forearm.
