Springfield M1866 .50-70 "trapdoor" Second Allin conversion rifle from civil war musket. Shortened to 29" barrel with stock shortened to 2-band configuration. Dated 1864 on lock and 1866 on breechblock. Metal parts have a dark uncleaned patina overall. Interesting upper band with sling swivel and stacking swivel, also has bayonet stud front sight, suggesting military use after alteration to short rifle. Stock sanded long ago to have more of a .45-70 style profile, has scattered handling marks and a small crack in the left side above the trigger. Mechanically good except block latch spring is weak, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
