Springfield M1866 "Second Allin" .50-70 "trapdoor" conversion of civil war rifled musket. Better than average condition rifle with patinated case colors on breech block, bold blackened casehardening on breech block, and "in the white" parts cleaned to an attractive appearance overall. Excellent lock and barrel markings, and sunken cartouches opposite the lock. Stock has a nice open grain and reasonably sharp edges to the mortises, suggesting less wear and use. Wood shows some minor marks from handling, a small crack behind the rear barrel band, and some chipping to the cleaning rod channel. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
