scarce M1869 Springfield .50-70 "trapdoor" cadet rifle. Serial number 1149. Smaller configuration without sling swivels compared to its companion M1868 Infantry rifle, this rifle has the correct 29-5/8" barrel. 1864 dated lock with case colors present, 1870 dated breechblock, and nicely cartouche ESA stock. Metal parts are clean and smooth with a pleasing patina and some original finish. Stock is uncleaned, showing scattered scratches and handling brushes, and some minor slivering to the cleaning rod channel. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
