Springfield M1879 .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 224621, made in 1883 with 1884 breechblock. Metal parts have an attractive plumb blue patina overall with little scattered light rust. Rear sight spring is present but broken. Stock is very good, may have been lightly cleaned, has a small grain crack by buttplate on left side and a small bruise on left side of forearm, otherwise stock is clean with consistent color and a trace of the inspector cartouche. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
