Springfield M1879 .45-70 rifle. Serial number 489221 places it in the model 1884 range, but all parts appear consistent with a model 1879 standard configuration. Metal parts are well marked, uncleaned, with an old coating of oil finish and scattered old light rust. Stock is good, showing honest wear and use overall, may have been lightly cleaned, faint cartouche outline and P proof present. There are scattered worn moderate handling marks and a small hairline crack to rear of lock mortise. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
