Rare early, pre-Parker Brothers double barrel twist shotgun by Charles Parker. An excellent article on the origins of Parker Brothers can be found here. This type is described in the article as a "variation that looks like [the earlier] Meriden Manufacturing gun without having the T-latch." This gun is serial number 20, with the article noting the highest observed number being 24, with a possible estimated production of 40. Shortly thereafter, the design evolved to the more familiar Parker Brothers underlifter action, but with a back action lock and Charles Parker marking. This gun is marked on the barrel rib "CHARLES PARKER MAKER MERIDEN CONN LAMINATED STEEL" with small patent marking on tang of frame. 29-1/2" barrels, 12 gauge bores. Nicely engraved locks. Metal parts have a medium to dark gray-brown patina overall. Stock is checkered in wrist and forearm, showing expected wear and marks from handling in the butt, while showing more wear and extensive cracking in the rear portion of the forearm. Forearm tip insert replaced long ago. Right lock has spring tension but does not cock, left lock mechanically good. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
