Scarce Antebellum southern shotgun by Moses Dickson of Louisville, Kentucky, who is listed as having operated there from 1848 to 1860, thence moving to Liberty, MO. Marked on each lock "M Dickson" and on barrel rib "Imported by M Dickson Louisville Ky". 31" barrel with evidence of some lifting to the rib. Fancy engraved locks, triggerguard, and barrel breech. Fancy cap box in belly of butt incorporating German silver. One screw is missing, from the triggerguard. Stock is very good, plain, showing minor scattered handling marks, a little chip at rear of barrel tang, and some dings above the left barrel key escutcheon. Ramrod is interesting and antique, but too short for the gun. Locks are mechanically good. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
