English double barrel percussion shotgun retailed by Thomas W. Tignor, Richmond, Virginia. Marked on locks "T.W.TIGNOR" and on barrel rib "T.W.TIGNOR RICHMOND VA FINE LONDON TWIST". Tignor began operations in Richmond in 1858. In the book "Confederate and Southern Agent Marked Shotguns" by Pritchard & Ashworth, a Tignor shotgun is pictured with period carving identifying it as having been used in the 1st VA Cavalry (CSA). 30" barrels with rib lifted slightly at breech. Metal parts have an uncleaned patina with some scattered rust present, and minimal pitting. Stock shows expected wear and use, where the original oil finish is worn away, it is darker, showing checkering in the wrist and forearm. Wood has some minor "flea bite" chipping around the triggerguard, forearm edges, and lock mortises and a small crack at rear of each lock mortise. Mechanically good except right lock releases from half cock when the trigger is pulled, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
