Fine English single barrel percussion shotgun retailed by Joab Hapgood of Boston, Massachusetts, who operated there from 1847-1864. Signed on lock in fancy lettering with flourishes "Hapgood" and similarly on top of barrel "Hapgood Boston". British proofs and "10" gauge marking on underside of barrel. 32" barrel with part octagon breech section transitioning to 16-sided, with a "wedding band" separator from round section. Metal parts have an untouched rust patina aside from exposing markings. Stock is also uncleaned, checkered in wrist, has some scattered handling marks from over the years, has some chipping to the forearm edge on the right side and a crack by the barrel key escutcheon. Ebony ramrod forward section repaired with brass long ago to a lighter section with screw puller on other end. Hammer is an antique replacement that needs some fitting to strike properly.
