Single barrel percussion shotgun by J.Hopkins, as marked on lock. 34" barrel of about 0.69" bore, British proofed on underside. Fancy throughout, has an interestingly shaped lock, double keyed stock with nicely shaped escutcheons, flower and deer inlay in belly of buttstock, inlaid bands on barrel breech, and little escutcheon in the wrist with initials "CHP". Metal parts have a dark patina overall with a little pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock is good, showing average wear and marks from handling overall, has a grain crack behind the ramrod ferule, a worn small piece missing above the front of the lock, and a zig-zag crack in the area of the front of the triggerguard associated with a small filled spot, crack does not appear to have any play in it. Replaced wooden ramrod. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
