Ballard's patent breechloading carbine by Ball and Williams. Serial number 3358. Clearly marked on barrel flats "BALLARD'S PATENT/NOV.5.1861.", "BALL&WILLIAMS/Worcester Mass.", MERWIN&BRAY,AGT'S/NEW YORK." Metal parts have a smooth appearance with a mottled coloration overall, possibly from added finish. Stocks are lightly refinished with a smooth appearance, having a crack behind the upper frame tang and a very small check behind the lower frame tang. Buttstock is tight to frame. Has a leather tag from an old gun collection. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
