C. Sharps New Model 1859 percussion saddle ring carbine. Serial number 43803. Early gun made about 14,000 units into production, these M1859 carbines saw long use during the war and had a lower survival rate compared to later models. Lock and rear sight markings are clear, other markings show wear and are partial. Front sight shows a good deal of wear from time in the saddle. Metal parts are a light gray, being speckled with patina. Stock shows moderate wear and use overall, may have been lightly cleaned at some point, has scattered expected handling marks, a grain crack in the toe area of the butt, a crack above the lock, a light grain crack to rear of lock, and a small chip in the lock mortise. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
