C1750-70 British percussion conversion fowler or trade gun. 38-5/8" part octagon, part round barrel with slightly swamped (flared) muzzle. Barrel has some simple embellishments at the breech and octagon/round transition. British proofs with early maker cartouche that may be "TB" or "TD". Maker mark on lock that is hard to read. Nice brass wrist escutcheon, stepped buttplate, and triggerguard with acorn finial. Brass parts have medium-dark patina and iron parts are in rich, dark patina with some expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock has dark patina overall with some grain cracks in the butt, small piece of wood missing to rear of lock mortise, long cracks near the forearm edges, one of which is secured with a nice period nail, and some filler applied around the barrel keys. Replacement ramrod is short to the barrel. Original nipple is battered. Hammer has some play on the tumbler. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
