US Surcharged French M1763 Charleville musket. US surcharged at rear of lock, and stock shows a shadow of part of a "U.STATES" brand which was whittled away and replaced with the name "C.BUNON". Barrel shortened to 31-1/4" long with stock shortened to area of lower barrel band. Metal parts have an uncleaned patina with clear "Charleville" marking and proof on lock. Interesting "clinker" conversion to percussion using flintlock hammer with a neatly made piece of metal in the jaws to strike the percussion cap. Stock has an old added finish with a piece of wood missing from below the lock and small crack by lock bolt. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
