M1816 Evans contract musket, reputed Confederate conversion - $950.00

Please click the image for a larger version
M1816 Evans contract musket, reputedly converted to percussion by the Confederacy. Marked on lock forward of hammer W.L.EVANS/V.FORGE and behind hammer "1833/US". Lockplate has additional mating mark 47 on flashpan fragment that matches a 47 stamped in the wrist. Metal parts have a pleasing chocolate patina overall with exception of a mottled patina on the lockplate that was originally casehardened, thereby resisting corrosion. Breech area shows pitting from having been used a good deal after it was converted. Lower sling swivel is broken off. Stock is good, having a pleasing patina to the oil finish, which shows evidence of wear and handling with numerous minor marks from having been used and never cleaned. Free of cracks and chips with exception of some minor nicks to the ramrod channel. If this gun did serve the South, it likely did so for a very long period. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
