C1750-80 American-built flintlock reconversion dual purpose fowler-musket. Barrel of correct length and bore size for militia use, does not have a bayonet stud, but could have been used without a bayonet or one friction fit without a stud. 40-1/2" round barrel of .69 caliber bore, British proofed at breech with "IO" maker mark. Early curled trigger. Plain but nicely shaped sideplate and buttplate tang. Early British trade lock. Nice period ramrod with handmade cleaning worm on end. Brass parts are cleaned to a light coloration, barrel and lock have a light rust patina. Stock shows average wear and use overall with scattered handling marks, lightly cleaned overall, repaired crack above rear of lock, small grain cracks in butt and in front of sideplate, small crack to left of barrel tang, and about 6" of front end of forearm nicely restored. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
