Springfield M1816 Type III flintlock musket, dated 1838 on lock. Barrel shortened to 31-1/2" long. Well-marked lock, stock cartouche outlines are visible, barrel proofs are not. Reconverted to flintlock with aged reproduction parts and undrilled flash hole. Metal parts have a medium to dark patina overall with some pitting in the barrel breech. Stock is smooth from having been lightly cleaned, shows scattered handling marks and dark spots overall, and a small crack by the rear lock bolt. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
