Springfield M1863 Type I percussion musket. Utilizes earlier 1862 dated lock. Initials "FW" are neatly engraved opposite lock, and "J M Co. D" with "37" above it. No further history has been determined. Metal parts have a medium rust patina overall with some pitting present in the barrel breech. Stock has visible cartouche opposite lock. Wood is good with a smooth oil finish, has a couple minor dings in the ramrod channel, exhibits some powder burn behind the bolster, and scattered handling marks overall. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
