US Contract M1836 flintlock pistol by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut. Standard maker marking on lock with date of 1844. US proofs on barrel and bold inspector cartouches in stock opposite lock. 8-1/2" round barrel of .54 caliber bore. Overall better than average condition with metal parts lightly cleaned to "in the white" configuration as originally finished, except the darker casehardened lock. Stock has nice edges and deeply sunken cartouches, showing light use overall and free of cleaning, has a small hairline by the rear lock bolt, some small hairlines at rear of lock, and a small crack in lower rear of lock mortise. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
