scarce Mass Arms Co., Maynard-primed belt revolver. Novel design to circumvent Colt's patent where the cylinder is unlocked with a press button and then revolved by hand. According to Flayderman 7A-057, 200 of this model were procured by John Brown for his purposes and ultimately shipped to Kansas. Marked on top of frame strap "MASS ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS" with Maynard information on primer door with attractive American eagle. 4" round barrel of .31 caliber. Triggerguard is absent, barrel latch is partly broken off, and cylinder is a replacement. Metal parts have some scattered light pitting with a medium patina overall. Wood grip is good, showing even wear and use with some minor worn chipping and numerous minor dings to the butt from improper use as a hammer. Hammer cocks, Maynard internals do not rotate but springs are present for the tape primer. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
