M1803 Harpers Ferry rifle dated 1815 on lock. An early second production gun with original shorter barrel made before 36" was standardized that year. Relatively few of these shorter barreled rifles are seen compared to the later 36". Very nicely marked lock and a nicely done reconversion to flintlock done with attractively aged parts. Bore is sleeved to a .45 caliber rifled bore. Strong barrel proofs and visible stock inspector mark opposite lock. Brass parts have a mustard patina, iron parts are dark patina overall with scattered light pitting. Stock is lightly refinished some time ago, has a little powder erosion behind the hammer, small crack behind lock, crack by rear lock screw, long crack behind ramrod ferule, small crack to rear of stock band on right side, and a small chip in front of the stock band where ramrod passes. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
