US M1817 flintlock "common" rifle. Marked on lock "US/R.JOHNSON". Barrel shortened about 1-1/4" to 34-3/4" long. US marking and proofs at barrel breech. Reconverted to flintlock with aged reproduction parts. Rear sight, upper sling swivel, and ramrod are absent. Metal parts have a rust patina with scattered pitting overall with heavier pitting in the barrel breech area and buttplate. Stock is heavily worn, including being worn through the ramrod channel, but still has some visible inspector cartouche opposite the lock. Stock shows moderate marks from handling, crack by rear lock screw, missing wood from ramrod channel behind rear band, some missing wood near the lock, and some worn slivers from the ramrod channel. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
