C1840-60 percussion walnut halfstock rifle with nice patchbox. Marked on back action trade lock "ASHMORE/WARRANTED". 33-3/8" octagon barrel of has an old filled dovetail about 3" behind the rear sight. Metal parts have a light to medium patina overall with some pitting in the barrel breech area. Nicely shaped brass patchbox with release button protected in an interesting little hollow created in the toe of the butt. Patchbox does not want to release. Stock is very good, showing average wear and use overall, free of cracks, with some erosion from gunpowder around the drum area, and a couple minor chips to the lock mortise. Nipple is a recent replacement and one ramrod pipe is an old replacement. Mechanically good including set triggers, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
