C1860 Pennsylvania Rifle Works, as marked on lock and barrel, halfstock percussion rifle. This company was operated in Philadelphia, PA by owner G. Dunlap. Mostly known for simple, plainly made rifles, this one is unusually fancy. 31-1/2" octagon barrel of about 0.39" bore, brass inlaid bands at breech, 15/16" width. Unusual brass lockplate, parts are nicely engraved including very fancy patchbox. Barrel has a dark patina with some pitting in the barrel breech area. Brass parts are lightly cleaned to a yellow coloration. Curly maple halfstock is checkered in the wrist, shows average wear and use, having small pieces of carefully inlet replaced wood, including several opposite the lock, a sliver in front of the lock, and a rectangle around the left barrel key escutcheon. Nice antique handmade ramrod with brass tip. Mechanically good with set triggers. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
